Stamped on the lower body by the Société Industrielle de Vallauris, one of the two major cooperative workshops of the Provençal pottery town in the early 20th century (between 1902 and 1930).\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eThe exterior is almost completely darkened by a deep carbon patina from years of hearth and fire use. Underneath the blackened surface, you can still see flashes of terracotta, while the inside holds that glossy orange-brown glaze that makes old Vallauris kitchen pottery feel so warm. The contrast between the dark exterior and the bright interior is really beautiful.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eBecause of its age, hairline interior cracks, pitting and traditional glaze... I would keep this piece for decorative use today rather than returning it to cooking service.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eIt would be wonderful in a French country kitchen filled with fruit like in the pictures. Even with the small cracks, it's perfect for a summer salad or just left empty where the dark surface can do its work.
