It's a wonderful design.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eThe whole piece is printed in green transfer with cooking instructions, the patent numbers, and the words Gold Medal London 1911. Made by Grimwade Brothers at Winton Pottery in Stoke-on-Trent, the firm that later became Royal Winton.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eThe lid is what makes this antique ironstone pudding bowl such a wonderful piece of history. The top carries the full set of cooking instructions, the approximate one-pint capacity, and the 5½-inch size designation. That matters because it was the smallest Quick Cooker offered in the Grimwade catalogue, considerably harder to find today than the larger family-size examples that turn up more regularly.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eFlip the lid over and you find a printed catalogue of other Grimwade patent products: the Hygienic Household Jars, the Pie Dish, the Safety Milk Bowl, and the Grimwade Jug, each illustrated and described. They built the advertising right into the finish... another brilliant tactic.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eThe interior glaze remains clean and bright, the green transfer is still crisp, and the central funnel is in good working order.
