Made in France around 1940 to 1950, they have clearly spent most of their lives doing exactly what they were built to do.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eThe pair is hand woven from willow wicker and lined with heavy natural linen stitched into place by hand. Long, narrow, and shallow, they were made specifically for baguettes during their final rise before baking. The weave remains tight and well-proportioned, finished with the traditional over-looped rim and tapered ends. The willow has mellowed into a warm honey-copper tone, while the linen tells the real story of years spent on a bakery bench.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eWhat I like most is that they stayed together. Bakery equipment usually gets used hard, replaced, discarded, or separated over time. These did not. You can easily picture them stacked in the corner of a village bakery at the end of the day, waiting for tomorrow's dough. Today they look just as good holding fresh baguettes, market fruit, or nothing at all. The wear is the appeal here.
