This antique French brass watering can has the craftsmanship that truly sets it apart from others in the field. It has a hinged lid, oval body and double-handle design that give it a wonderful feeling... perfect beside potted herbs, ferns or on the counter next to a vase of dried lavender.
Known in French as an arrosoir en laiton, this brass watering can likely dates from around 1880 to 1910. Pieces like this were made for practical household use, from watering indoor plants to carrying water where it was needed in the home.
The hand-soldered seams, long upturned spout, fixed side handle and arched bail handle all speak to its useful design. The brass has aged to a soft glow, with wear and patina from long use. Practical, decorative and full of French house-and-garden charm.
