This antique French casier has a secret on the back, and that is what makes it so interesting. From the front, you get nine useful little compartments, worn gray-green paint and the honest simplicity of old pine. Turn it over and the reverse is lined with printed French administrative paper from the 1870s.
This petit casier, or small sorting shelf, was likely made in the last quarter of the 19th century. The printed decree on the back references regulations for cabarets and public houses, giving the piece a wonderful documentary layer alongside its practical household use.
The pine construction is simple and direct, with cut nails, butt joints and paint worn back at the edges from age and handling. Use it for small pottery, matchbooks, keys, shells, kitchen treasures or collected objects. It feels like the kind of piece that makes a room more personal the minute it goes up.

Are returns or exchanges accepted?
We accept returns within 14 days of delivery in line with EU consumer law. Buyer covers return shipping and items must be returned in original condition. Refunds include the item price and original standard shipping.
