French Hand-Forged Copper Saucepan | Antique Casserole à Queue
USA and Canada: shipping, insurance, customs duties and import fees are already included in the price.
This French copper saucepan has the beautiful craftsmanship of early kitchen copper. No extra ornament, no polished perfection... just a hand-hammered body, a long copper handle and the kind of worked surface that makes a kitchen feel older, warmer and more interesting the moment it is unboxed.
Known in French as a casserole à queue, this antique copper saucepan likely dates from the early 19th century. The tapered body was hammered by hand, then fitted with an all-copper handle attached by a hand-shaped bracket and a rosette of copper rivets. The rolled cuff at the end of the handle is pierced for hanging, a practical detail that also gives the piece a strong historical presence.
The interior tin lining, or étamage, has worn back through long use, showing warm copper beneath. Because of that, I would enjoy this piece decoratively unless it is reviewed and retinned by a copper specialist. Hung with other French copper cookware, set near old cutting boards or displayed beside stoneware and linen, it brings depth, age and the unmistakable glow of a real working French kitchen.
