This French copper chope has the rough beauty of something made by hand and used without ceremony. The tapered body, hammered surface and heavy riveted handle give it a strong tavern-table feeling, while the warm copper patina makes it easy to place with old bottles, cutting boards, stoneware or other collected kitchen pieces.
Known in French as a chope, this antique copper tankard likely dates from the 19th century. The body was formed from copper sheet into a tapered cylinder, joined with a vertical dovetailed seam and finished with a hand-rolled rim. The handle is fixed with teardrop-shaped copper reinforcement plates and a ring of rivets, giving the piece real structure and character.
The surface shows hammer marks, age, oxidation and the kind of irregularity that makes early French copper so appealing. I would enjoy this one decoratively rather than for drinking today, especially styled with fresh flowers, wooden utensils or simply left empty where the craftsmanship can be seen. Are returns or exchanges accepted?
We accept returns within 14 days of delivery in line with EU consumer law. Buyer covers return shipping and items must be returned in original condition. Refunds include the item price and original standard shipping.
