This antique French cutting board has a warm, clean shape that makes it feel easy to bring into any kitchen. The wood has a golden tone and the carved paddle handle gives the whole piece a delightful country-kitchen feeling. Although this is still a working board, the proportions are just perfect for it to display beautifully on a wall as well.
This planche à découper ancienne (old cutting board) likely dates from the late 19th to early 20th century. It was cut from a single plank of close-grained hardwood, with a rectangular body and a carved handle at one end. The hole through the handle allows it to hang easily on a kitchen wall or peg rail.
What I like about this board is that it is just straightforward. It is one solid piece of wood, shaped for a purpose, used for decades, and softened by time in all the right places. It sits flat and still has generations of use left in it.
Today, it could hang with other antique French cutting boards, sit on the counter with bread before lunch, or be used as a charcuterie board. The golden wood works beautifully when placed near some green glazed pottery, linen torchons and maybe an old cleaver. Delightful.

We accept returns within 14 days of delivery in line with EU consumer law. Buyer covers return shipping and items must be returned in original condition. Refunds include the item price and original standard shipping.
