This antique French cutting board has a unique shape that was hand made for real kitchen work. The wide rectangular face, carved handle and thick body all point to a board that was built to be used in daily life. It has that true French farmhouse feeling: simple, solid and worn in by years of daily use.
This planche à découper ancienne (old cutting board) likely dates from around 1900. It was cut from a single thick plank, likely beech, and shaped by hand. The size and weight are a big part of the appeal. At approximately five centimeters thick and over three kilos, this is a true working board. The edges have rounded naturally from decades of handling and washing, and both faces show knife scoring from long use.
The board was not machined but cut by hand (including the hanging hole) and that is what gives it so much character. It has the kind of surface that comes from bread, vegetables, meat and cheese being prepped daily a rural French kitchen.
Today, it is ready to be used again. Are returns or exchanges accepted?
We accept returns within 14 days of delivery in line with EU consumer law. Buyer covers return shipping and items must be returned in original condition. Refunds include the item price and original standard shipping.
