This little jug has the most unique design... it fills from under the jug rather than the top. This antique French "mammiforme" jug has a hidden fill hole in the base, so the water goes in from below and fills the reservoir. When it is stood upright, the user can pour from the small side spout. It is clever, curious and exactly the kind of folk pottery piece that makes people stop and ask how it works.
Mammiforme means breast-shaped and the shape is part of the charm: a pointed body, rounded belly and single loop handle. Likely made in the South of France somewhere in the neighborhood of 1850 to 1900... it carries that playful Provençal pottery feeling beautifully.
The original use is debated, which only makes it more interesting. It may have been used as a gentle pourer for water, oil or potentially even medicine. Are returns or exchanges accepted?
We accept returns within 14 days of delivery in line with EU consumer law. Buyer covers return shipping and items must be returned in original condition. Refunds include the item price and original standard shipping.
