Antique French Monogrammed Damask Linen Napkins | Set of 12 | Red P.G. Initials
Twelve matching antique French linen napkins means that a large, family sized table can be set with matching napkins all the way around. And that is amazing. This set feels fresh, generous and quietly special. Each napkin is made from a crisp white damask linen and has a red hand-stitched monogram that brings just the right touch of color and history.
Imagine them folded beside old French plates, silver cutlery and clear glasses before a long lunch... this is the kind of table that simply looks amazing for before anyone even sits down.
These antique French serviettes, or table napkins, were likely part of a trousseau prepared for marriage in the late 19th or early 20th century. Each napkin is woven in white linen damask with a soft floral motif that appears as the fabric catches the light. The decoration is not printed on the cloth; it is woven into the linen itself, which gives the surface that lovely quiet movement good damask always has.
Each napkin is hand monogrammed in red cross-stitch with the initials P.G. The embroidery sits near the center of the folded napkin, so the initials show beautifully when stacked, folded or placed at the table. There is something very touching about this kind of handwork. Every stitch was counted and placed by hand, something that doesn't happen often in modern times.
The set includes twelve napkins, each generously sized at approximately 77 by 64 centimeters, or about 30 by 25 inches. The linen has the weight and softness you want from old French household linen. It is sturdy enough to to be washed, pressed, folded and used for years.
The napkins are in lovely antique condition, with no noted damage or staining. Today, they would be beautiful for Sunday lunch, holiday meals or a summer table in the garden. The red monogram gives them warmth and personality that is just lovely to experience.
