This vintage French Cliousclat cutlery holder has that cheerful working-kitchen feeling that makes Provençal pottery so easy to love. The yellow color, green slip decoration and twin utensil pockets feel practical first... but the shape and color make it wonderful to hang near the kitchen sink or on a wall.
Made by the Poterie de Cliousclat in the Drôme, this porte-couverts, or cutlery holder, carries the incised S mark of the Sourdive family era. The piece likely dates from around 1965 to 1975, when the village pottery was continuing its long tradition of terre vernissée, or glazed earthenware.
The two pockets are made for knives, forks and spoons, with small drainage holes at the bottom and a corded backplate for hanging. Set on a counter or hung near the table, it brings color, usefulness and a real piece of Drôme pottery life into the kitchen.
