This French galvanized zinc arrosoir has that clean, utilitarian beauty that makes old garden pieces so lovely. The spangled metal surface, rusted iron handle and long straight spout give it a strong silhouette without feeling decorative for decoration’s sake.
Likely made in France between the 1920s and 1950s, this arrosoir en zinc was built for daily use in a potager, greenhouse or courtyard garden. The open top, tapered body and long spout made it practical for watering close to the base of plants without soaking the foliage above.
The galvanized surface has aged into a soft blue-gray, with oxidation, mineral bloom and rust warmth where the iron handle meets the body. Set beside terracotta pots, garden tools or a stone wall, it has the look of a French courtyard object that was kept because it still makes the space better.
