French Galvanized Zinc Arrosoir | Long-Spout Garden Watering Can
This French zinc arrosoir has a calm, useful beauty to it. The long straight spout, arched handle and pale weathered metal give it the look of something that belonged near the garden door... always within reach and never pretending to be anything more than it was.
Likely made in France in the early to mid 20th century, this galvanized zinc watering can was built for daily garden work. The cylindrical body has a top carrying handle, side handle for tipping and a long spout designed for watering close to the base of plants.
The splash guard behind the opening is the smart detail here. It was made to keep water from sloshing out while the can was carried full across the garden. The zinc has aged to a soft gray patina with mineral marks, oxidation and surface wear from years of use.
