French Zinc Watering Can Planter | Antique Long-Spout Arrosoir
This French zinc arrosoir has moved beautifully from useful gardening tool to beautiful outdoor planter or accessory. The tall body, long angled spout and blue-gray surface give it a strong garden silhouette. At some point, someone pierced the base to make it ready for a second life with herbs, flowers or a small trailing plant in the garden.
Likely made in France in the early 20th century, this arrosoir à long bec, or long-spout watering can, was hand soldered from zinc with a tapered body, arched handle and precision pouring tube. The shape was made for careful watering around pots and nursery plants.
At some point in its long life, the base was deliberately pierced with drainage holes, converting it from watering can to jardinière. The zinc carries oxidation, mineral bloom and outdoor patina, all softened by age. Set in a courtyard, garden room or near a group of terracotta pots and it brings height, texture and that quietly collected French garden feeling.
