French Zinc Market Garden Arrosoir | Large Antique Watering Can
This French zinc arrosoir has the scale and presence of a piece made for serious garden work. The tall body, long angled spout and broad arched handle give it a strong, almost architectural shape, the kind that can hold a corner of a courtyard, potting room or covered terrace with very little effort.
Likely dating from the late 19th to early 20th century, this arrosoir en zinc was made for market gardeners and larger household gardens. The body is rolled and seamed by hand, with a wide fill opening, riveted construction and a long spout designed to reach the base of plants.
The zinc has aged to a soft gray, with oxidation, mineral bloom and warmer rust tones at the seams, handle and stress points. The base has worn through in places, so this piece is best enjoyed decoratively rather than as a working watering can.
