Vintage French Salins Clérissy Faience Plate | Hand-Painted Moustiers Style
This vintage French faience plate has a cheerful confidence given to it by the skilled artist who created it. The painted urn, curling handles, cobalt blue details and ochre-gold flowers give it that Moustiers-style brightness. It is decorative, but still warm enough to live easily in a kitchen or dining room.
Made by Salins in the Clérissy décor, this plate likely dates from around 1930 to 1950. The cream faience background has a softly scalloped edge, with the central bouquet painted by hand in blue, green, ochre and manganese-brown outlines. The back is signed Clérissy Salins, Inaltérable.
The beauty here is in the handwork. The brushstrokes have small variations, the colors feel settled and the whole piece carries that relaxed French country feeling people try so hard to recreate. Displayed on a wall, shelf or plate stand... it adds color, history and a little lift to any room.
