The pine cone finial is the detail that makes this vintage French tureen feel so Provençal. The deep yellow ochre glaze, low rounded body and little scrolled handles give it a sunny presence... it's the kind of piece that makes lunch feel warmer before anything is served.
Marked Faïences Haute Provence, this soupière likely dates from the 1930s to 1950s. The domed lid has a softly scalloped edge, finished with a sculpted pomme de pin, or pine cone, set above a small collar of leaves.
The glaze pools richly along the rim, with darker edging that gives the yellow even more depth. Set at the center of the table for soup, daube or something slow-cooked... or leave it out between meals where the color can do its work. It feels joyful, useful and full of southern French character.
