Antique French Peugeot Frères Coffee Mill | Tinned Steel, Late 19th Century
The tinned steel body is what makes this antique French Peugeot coffee mill feel so different. It has a darker, moodier character than the classic wooden or cast iron grinders. You can see the oxidation, wear and surface condition that tells you it has lived a real kitchen life.
This moulin à café, or coffee mill, is stamped Peugeot Frères with the lion mark and old S.G.D.G. patent wording. It likely dates from around 1880 to 1900, when Peugeot was already known across France for precision grinding mechanisms long before the cars became famous. This metal version is significantly more difficult to source than wooden grinders.
The curved crank still turns, with its turned wooden grip worn by use. A small wood-lined drawer slides out below to catch the grounds, though the original decorative pull is missing and a metal pin remains. Displayed with coffee beans, old stoneware or café pieces... it brings a wonderful piece of French coffee history to the kitchen.
