This antique French "tourne omelette" (omelette turner) is a great piece of Provençal kitchen history, likely dating to the late 19th century. Also known as a vire omelette plate, the form was designed specifically for flipping omelettes the traditional way. That's why it was formed with a wide sloping rim, shallow center well, and a substantial foot underneath that doubles as a grip when turning.

The earthenware body is finished in a soft yellow ochre glaze with beautiful age crazing throughout. Underneath, kiln marks and glaze drips remain visible, while small rim chips reveal the warm red clay beneath. The single incised ring around the rim is the only decoration, and honestly, it does not need anything more.
Leaned on a shelf, filled with walnuts in their shells, or actually used for Sunday omelettes, this old vire-tourne carries the feeling of a real Provençal farmhouse kitchen with it. The kind of pottery that feels instantly at home once it is there.
