This antique French saucepan pair was produced by the Grandjean Jourdan atelier in Vallauris, the celebrated pottery town of the Alpes Maritimes long associated with traditional Provençal ceramics.
Both ceramics carry the impressed maker’s mark reading Grandjean Jourdan Vallauris A.M., consistent with the workshop’s mid 20th century production. Known in France as poêlons (handled cooking pans with pouring lips), these are classic examples of the utilitarian earthenware cookware once found stacked beside nearly every southern French stove.
Both ceramic cooking pans are made from glazed terracotta. The dimpled glaze is a hallmark signature of Vallauris. Decades of use have softened the surfaces beautifully over time.
