This antique French egg basket has exactly the kind of lived-in character that makes it feel great in any kitchen. Known in France as a panier à oeufs (egg basket), the bulbous wire form, scrolling upper rim, and wrapped carry handle are all consistent with mid century French kitchenware, likely dating from around 1950 to 1970. The original green paint is still there, worn back naturally in all the right places.
The body is built from hand assembled steel wire with circular openwork running from top to bottom and a decorative loop detail around the rim. The handle is wrapped in painted wire, now softened and worn from years of use. Small areas of oxidation and exposed steel give the basket warmth and depth without taking away from the structure at all. It still feels sturdy and still ready to work.
Fill it with brown eggs, garlic, lemons, or market vegetables and it immediately looks at home on the counter. It also works beautifully hanging from a wall hook or filled with dried lavender on open shelving. This is not decorative kitchenware pretending to be old. It is the real thing, with the kind of special patina that only comes with age and use.

We accept returns within 14 days of delivery in line with EU consumer law. Buyer covers return shipping and items must be returned in original condition. Refunds include the item price and original standard shipping.
