The twist in the fluting is what makes this pair of antique French kouglof molds such a great find. They have the traditional shape and with the patina from generations of use, these kouglof molds are spectacular. The spiral shape, warm amber glaze and darkened terracotta exteriors give them that wonderful Alsace baking feeling... you can almost feel the heat from the hearth and the kitchen life they experienced.
These moules à kouglof likely date from the late 19th century and are consistent with regional Alsace earthenware. Each mold has a central chimney, flared rim and pierced vent at the top, made for baking the traditional yeasted cake so closely tied to the region.
The interiors glow with honey amber glaze, while the exteriors carry deep oven-darkened patina from years of use. Hung together on a kitchen wall, stacked on a shelf or displayed with other French baking pieces... they bring warmth, texture and real country baking history into the room.
