Likely dating from the late 19th to early 20th century, the shallow oval form sits firmly in the tradition of Provençal tian (baking dishes) and plats à gratin (gratin dishes).
The glaze combination is what makes this one really work. A cream glazed interior covered in beautiful dense crazing, wrapped by a warm honey brown slip glaze around the rim and outer body. Small chips along the edge reveal the pale clay underneath, and the crackle throughout has that depth only real age can create.
This is the kind of dish that still begs to be used. Tomatoes and zucchini under the broiler, baked figs with honey, goat cheese at the center of the table. We accept returns within 14 days of delivery in line with EU consumer law. Buyer covers return shipping and items must be returned in original condition. Refunds include the item price and original standard shipping.
