Antique French Preserve Jars | Solidor & Durfor | Set of 3
Found at a brocante in the Alsace region, this set of three antique French preserve jars is a beautiful addition to any collection or a fine start to a new one. Two are marked Solidor, the larger in a cool teal glass, the smaller in a deeper bottle green. The third and smallest is marked Durfor, the maker name embossed clear across the top of the lid. Each jar has its original glass lid, iron bail wire, and clamp closure.
The Solidor pair likely dates to somewhere between the 1930s and 1950s, with capacity marks of one litre and three quarter litre embossed on the bases. The Durfor jar is older still, consistent with French production of the early 1900s into the 1920s.
Together these antique French canning jars span roughly half a century of kitchen life, every one of them showing small bubbles and fine mold lines in the glass that come from the way they were made.
The iron hardware shows light oxidation, aged naturally, and all three closures still work as they should. These "bocaux anciens" look beautiful grouped on an open shelf, filled with dry pasta or pulses, or simply set against a window where the green glass catches the light.
