This antique French cheese cutter is a great little piece of fromagerie history. Likely dating from the 1960s or 1970s, it is a classic Roquefortaise wire cutter made specifically for slicing Roquefort and other soft cheeses. The green frame still carries its original advertising for Roquefort Maria Grimal, Le Grand Affineur, an Aveyron producer dating back to the 19th century.
The construction is simple and built to work: a painted cast metal frame, spring tensioned cutting wire, and a marbled flecked cutting surface designed to resemble a wheel of Roquefort. Small brass finials finish the top nicely and give it just enough charm.
This cutter looks fantastic on a kitchen counter or wherever it is placed. Whether you actually use it for cheese or keep it purely as a piece of old French fromagerie advertising, it brings a real sense of character and everyday French food culture with it.
